CFL Emergency Relief Fund

Community foundations have a long history of standing ready in times of crisis.  Thanks to generous donors, in the past 18 months, the Community Foundation of Louisville has raised and distributed more than $35,000 in Emergency Relief Fund grants to help families and businesses in Jefferson County affected by flooding.

The Emergency Relief Fund at the Community Foundation of Louisville stands ready to receive and distribute grant funds to nonprofit organizations that will respond to future natural disasters and emergencies affecting our community and beyond.

When disaster strikes, the Community Foundation will activate the fund and evaluate several factors to inform distribution of funds, including the severity and impact of the emergency, the community needs and availability of adequate resources.  All monies raised will be distributed through grants to eligible nonprofit organizations providing assistance to victims and other responses appropriate for the specific emergency. Though its primary focus is on addressing protracted community needs once emergency issues are addressed, the Fund may elect to grant to first-response organizations if community needs dictate.

It is also a goal of the Community Foundation to build a community endowment fund that can most effectively respond to future emergency-related community needs. Therefore, effective April 25, 2018, contributions made to the CFL Emergency Relief Fund will be reserved for future response, unless otherwise designated by the donor.
